Overview
6 000 tonnes/year trout farm
This project relates to the rapidly growing societal interest for hydrogen, which has led to several projects for large scale green hydrogen production in mid Sweden. The trout farm is designed to produce 6,000 tonnes of trout annually. The facility will benefiting from industrial symbiosis with a nearby hydrogen plant. The key components of the cooperation will be the use of waste heat and oxygen from that plant in the fish farm.The main driver for this new site is the high availability of green electricity, clean freshwater and land in the area.
The ongoing hydrogen plant project is driven by the British company RES (Renewable Energy Systems), a substantial player in the renewable energy market; their aim at Site Alby is to establish a world-leading plant (500+ MW) for production of green hydrogen.
To further develop the project to a higher level of circularity we are focused on creating innovative and valuable solutions from their waste streams. The latter will utilise nutrients from the fish farm residues and also waste oxygen from the hydrogen plant, a combination that has the potential to constitute a truly inventive step when it comes to resource efficient and cost effective production of so-called SCP (Single Cell Protein), primarily to be used as feed component.
This project will establish a sustainable, cost-efficient 6,000 tonnes/year trout farm with potential for future expansion and SCP production, making it a unique circular initiative.
